For many years we have been considered the leading experts and most experienced in installation. Having done over 3500 installations we have pretty much seen it all, or so we thought.
Let me take a moment and introduce Mr. Carson. Will Carson’s dream car has been and still remains the beautiful and aggressive Pontiac Trans Am. He spent the better part of a year researching and looking at all the things he dreams of doing to this amazing “Eikon ic” <–(iconic pun) car. One of those modifications included lambo doors.
Like many before him, he looked around and found a “local shop” who said the same line as so many other shops have said, “oh ya, we can do those for sure”. Over the years this is still a pretty common response from your local shops. They will pretty much tell you anything to get your money. However, what they won’t tell you is they may have never done your actual car before, they don’t use quality Lambo door kits, and they for damn sure won’t give you a warranty.
This is what results in over 90% of all kits installed by a non professional as well as knock off or very low/cheap kits.
What you are looking at above is the exact condition that driver side door was in when we showed up to fix this horrific installation of a previously installed cheap kit.
You may notice a rope tied around a metal arm going to the door.
What you are seeing is a rop holding the door on the car because it actually fell completely off while Mr. Carson was out and about one day. Will called us prior having questions about how to adjust his doors because he was having problems with them. At that time, the door was still connected to the actual car. A couple weeks went by and he called us and said, “MY DOOR COMPLETELY FELL OFF!”
This kit is one of those ebay kits for 150-300 dollars These kits are by far the worst, most unreliable kits on the market. They use low quality material that ultimately leads to what you see here.
So often we see these kits lead to so much damage and so many problems!
You can see, they welded on a plate then welded on the kit, thus making it impossible to make any adjustments to its alignment. My job was starting to look scary. I was faced with so much welded material i didn’t even know where to begin.
I knew that I had to get this car back to as much “factory” status as possible. This was going to be a long day!
After spending what seemed to be forever, i finally removed the old junk kit and cutt away all the welded on plates that were covering the factory hinge bolt holes.
Once i was able to clear the area from the old, I was able to start getting this project moving and work towards once again, getting these doors vertical.
There are alot of complications and headaches when going behind someone, fixing their mistakes but it’s even more difficult when its the door on a vehicle. So many people i think, overlook the complexity or engineering that goes into the doors in the first place. There is a reason the door gaps on your vehicle are what they are. The factory hinges only allow so much motion, the latches inside your door only allows so much margin for proper grasp of the door bar. When these are to far one way or the other, you risk stress on the door latch and as we all know, if that latch fails, your door is going to fly open.
We we able to get this fixed and back to its inteded glory that Mr. Carson was trying to achieve in the first place. Along the way I personally met a great friend and a super amazing host to me. He was always making sure I had anything I needed or wanted, plenty of water, food, and even let me ride his scooter!! (best part of my day!) lol
A SMILE SAID IT ALL
This was for sure a challenge sent straight from hell but the smiles, and borderline tears of joy when he saw his dream car finally have doors that closed once again, was worth every ounce of pain, sweat, and frustration.
Will, it was my honor meeting you and giving your ride its glory back.
