In many race classes, racers are limited to a single 4-barrel carburetor or a single throttle body. Accufab used a clean sheet of paper and came to the conclusion that the standard intake manifold opening for the largest carbs available (the 4500 series) was just not adequate. The 9500 will not bolt up to a 4500 style intake manifold, which uses a 5.375-inch by 5.375-inch bolt pattern. The attachment bolt pattern for the 9500 is 7.0-inch by 7.0-inch and the required intake plenum opening needs to be at least 7.25-inches square.
Accufab’s goal was to design a better 4-barrel throttle body without trying to make it fit on the existing 22-square inch 4500 series intake manifold inlet opening, an inlet opening that was originally developed in 1969. The correct 9500 inlet opening is 52.5-square inches.
This size provides a 250% increase! Racers, or intake manifold manufacturers, will come up with better intakes to match the increase in air flow. Also, racers are creative and will most likely use a sheet metal plenum style intake manifold.

Application. These throttle bodies may be used with either EFI or mechanical fuel injection. For an EFI application, the throttle body is CNC machined to use a Ford Mustang 5.0L 1986-1993 throttle position sensor (TPS). Accufab has an optional adapter to accept the GM TPS if needed.
