C8 Corvette Vertical Doors (Lambo Doors) Conversion

What Are Vertical Doors?

Vertical hinges—often called Lambo doors—allow the door to rotate outward slightly and then lift upward. The concept became famous on the Lamborghini Countach and later models like the Lamborghini Aventador.
Instead of a simple horizontal pivot, vertical door systems use a two-axis hinge system:
The door opens slightly outward.
The hinge then pivots upward.
Most vehicles—including the Chevrolet Corvette C8—leave the factory with traditional side-swing hinges. These hinges are mounted to the A-pillar and allow the door to swing horizontally outward.
How traditional hinges work:
The door rotates outward on a fixed pivot.
Movement is strictly horizontal.
The door must swing wide to allow entry and exit.
Limitations of traditional hinges:
Require more side clearance when parked.
In tight parking spaces the door may hit another vehicle or wall.
They provide limited visual impact compared to exotic cars.
Benefits of vertical doors:
Require less side clearance in tight parking spaces.
Provide a supercar appearance.
Create a dramatic vertical opening motion.
Make it easier to exit in crowded parking areas.
The Chevrolet Corvette C8 platform is well suited for vertical door conversions because of its strong front hinge structure and aluminum chassis design.
Problems With Traditional Vertical Door Kits
While vertical doors have become a popular modification for exotic and performance vehicles, many older vertical door systems still rely on outdated hinge designs. These traditional designs commonly use bushing-style pivot points or simple rotational joints, which create friction every time the door moves.
In these systems, the hinge rotates on metal surfaces that slide against each other. This metal-on-metal contact creates resistance during every opening and closing cycle. Over time, that friction leads to premature wear, stiffness, and inconsistent door movement.
Common Issues With Traditional Vertical Door Systems
Owners who install older vertical door kits often experience problems such as:
• Metal-on-metal pivot wear caused by friction-based hinge designs
• Doors becoming harder to lift over time as bushings wear down
• Squeaking or noise during door operation
• Alignment issues caused by worn pivot points
• Increased stress on the gas shocks responsible for lifting the door
Because of the constant friction at the pivot points, some vertical door kits begin showing noticeable wear within weeks of regular use.
The Core Engineering Problem
The underlying issue with many traditional vertical door kits is simple:
They rely on sliding friction instead of rolling motion.
When a hinge rotates on bushings or metal sleeves, the surfaces are constantly sliding against each other. This sliding contact generates resistance and accelerates wear on the moving components.
As friction increases, the hinge becomes harder to move. This also places additional strain on the gas shocks that assist with lifting the door, which can shorten their lifespan.
How the Eikon V2 System Solves This Problem
The Eikon Motorsports V2 Series vertical door system was engineered specifically to eliminate the friction issues found in traditional vertical door kits.
Instead of relying on outdated bushing pivots, the V2 hinge system utilizes sealed roller-ball bearings at the primary pivot points. These bearings allow the hinge to move using rolling motion rather than sliding contact, dramatically reducing friction.
Benefits of the Eikon V2 Bearing Pivot System
• Friction-free door movement
• Smooth lifting and closing motion
• Reduced wear on hinge components
• Lower stress on the gas shocks
• Long-term durability and consistent operation
Because the hinge rotates on sealed bearings instead of bushings, the V2 system avoids the metal-on-metal friction that commonly causes premature wear in other vertical door kits.
Engineered for the C8 Corvette Platform
The V2 Series vertical door system was designed specifically for the C8 Corvette platform, combining high-strength structural materials with precision hinge engineering.
Key structural components include:
• T6-6061 billet aluminum brackets for strength and weight reduction
• A36 structural-grade steel arms for durability under load
• Sealed roller-ball bearing pivots for friction-free operation
The result is a smooth, durable vertical door system engineered for long-term performance and reliability.

“Compatible C8 Corvette Models”
Our kits use titanium M9 bolts because they deliver substantially higher strength at a fraction of the weight. Titanium’s superior strength-to-weight ratio reduces mass at critical pivot points, lowering inertia and decreasing stress on bearings, shocks, and mounting interfaces. Unlike stainless steel, titanium resists deformation and fatigue under constant motion, helping fasteners stay tight and stable through thousands of door cycles.
This isn’t an upgrade for looks — it’s a functional advantage that directly affects how the doors operate today and how the system holds up years from now.
